What is Cataract Surgery?
A cataract is a common eye condition in which the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to blurred or diminished vision.
It can occur at any age, it is especially prevalent among older adults.
Visually, cataracts can make the Vision foggy. Those affected may experience difficulty in reading, driving, recognizing faces, or performing daily tasks—especially in low light or bright light.
What Happens in Cataract Surgery?
During cataract surgery:
- The natural lens of the eye is removed.
- After removal of natural lens we implant artificial lenses.
- The procedure is usually quick (15–30 minutes) and performed under local anesthesia.
- In modern methods, it's blade-free, stitchless, and virtually painless.
Types of Cataract Surgery
- Phacoemulsification (Phaco): The most common method using ultrasound to break the lens.
- Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS): A more advanced, blade-free laser technique.
- Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS): Often used in rural/low-resource settings.
Benefits of Cataract Surgery:

• Improves quality of vision and life.
